About the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)
The Indian Air Force conducts the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) twice a year, typically in February and September. This national-level examination is held for the recruitment of officers in various branches of the Indian Air Force, which include:
- Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
- Technical Branch (Both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
- Ground Duty Branch (Both Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
Eligibility Criteria for the AFCAT Exam
1. For Flying Branch:
Educational Qualification:
- A minimum of a three-year graduate degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks or equivalent, OR
- Cleared Sections A & B of the Associate Membership examination of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
2. For Administration and Logistics Posts (Ground Duty Branch):
- A minimum of a three-year B.Com (Hons/Programme) degree with at least 60% marks.
3. For Accounts Posts (Ground Duty Branch):
- Same as above: B.Com (Hons/Programme) with 60% marks.
4. For Educational Posts (Ground Duty Branch):
A Postgraduate degree (minimum two-year programme) in one of the following disciplines with at least 50% marks in aggregate, and 60% marks in graduation:
