The Residential Mechanical Inspector has the skills and abilities for implementing inspections of the installation, maintenance, and alteration of mechanical systems that are installed and utilized for providing control of environmental conditions and related processes for one-and-two-family dwellings not more than three stories.
The residential mechanical inspector also examines the installation of fuel gas distribution piping and equipment, fuel-gas-fired appliances, and fuel-gas-fired appliance wiring.
The inspector must be familiar with and understand the basic standards necessary to protect life, health, property, and public welfare. This involves managing the design, construction, installation, material quality, location, operation, and upkeep of mechanical and fuel gas systems. Additionally, the inspector should possess "soft skills," which refer to personal qualities that improve one's capacity to interact positively with others.
