RHIA - AHIMA Exam
Registered Health Information Administrators (RHIAs) serve as key links between care providers, payers, and patients. They hold in-depth knowledge of medical, administrative, ethical, and legal standards related to healthcare delivery and the protection of confidential patient information.
RHIAs work in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals, multispecialty clinics, physician practices, long-term care facilities, mental health centers, and other ambulatory care settings. They also apply their expertise in non-clinical fields, including managed care organizations, insurance companies, software vendors, consulting firms, government agencies, educational institutions, and pharmaceutical companies.
Who should take the exam?
To be eligible for the RHIA exam, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Complete the baccalaureate-level academic requirements of a Health Information Management (HIM) program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)

Complete the master’s-level academic requirements of a CAHIIM-accredited HIM program

Complete the academic requirements of a CAHIIM-approved HIM Certificate of the Degree (Post-Baccalaureate) program

Graduate from an HIM program approved by a foreign association with which AHIMA has a reciprocity agreement

- Domain 1: Understand Data and Information Governance (17-20%)
- Domain 2: Learn Compliance with Access, Use, and Disclosure of Health Information (15-18%)
