On IBM mainframe operating systems, scripting languages such as "Job Control Language" are used to give instructions to the system on how to launch a subsystem or conduct batch jobs. The z/OS® operating system may be instructed through job control language (JCL) statements on what tasks you want it to carry out. Although there are a lot of statements in this collection, most projects may be completed with just a tiny portion of them.
Why is Job Control Language (JCL) important?
JCL is used to specify which programs to execute, which files or devices to use for input or output, and occasionally whether or not to skip a stage. Using JCL, you may remove and construct a large number of data sets, VSAM Clusters, and GDGs (Generation Data Groups). It allows for the comparison of files containing various PDS (Partitioned Data Set) members.
